Croatian and Indian flavours on Budapest’s new shopping street
Two new dining options expand the offering of Corvin Promenade: entering the Hungarian market this year, the Mlinar Croatian bakery chain and the Indian Bombay Curry Bar fast food are opening a new coffee shop and a restaurant with the help of CBRE in Budapest’s new multi-functional shopping district
Budapest’s largest urban renewal program, the shopping street of the Corvin-Szigony project, the Corvin Promenade adds two new retail units: entering the Hungarian market in 2013, the Croatian Mlinar cafe bakery will open its second shop here in early May, and the Indian fast-food chain, Bombay Curry Bar (formerly Bombay Express), after its already established Andrássy Street store, will create its second restaurant on the promenade on 23rd April 2013.
“Restaurants and cafes are opening this year on a section Budapest’s new shopping street, the Corvin Promenade, where it widens to 36 meters – continuing the glass roofed ground floor mall of Corvin Plaza. Our plans are right on track: we are witnessing the formation of a new “gastro-quarter”. Thanks to the urban renewal program, thousands of new residents, the tenants of about 40 thousand square meters of new office space and the tens of thousands of visitors of Corvin Plaza and Corvin Cinema create a significant demand. The stores in the shopping mall provide shopping experience, while the Corvin Promenade and its terraces provide relaxation and enjoyment for them.” – said Peter Karai, Sales Director of the developer, Futureal.
“The economic downturn also has a slowing down effect on retail business, but the Corvin Plaza and the Promenade are developing well.” – Anita Csörgő, Head of CBRE’s Retail Division added. “The new transactions facilitated by CBRE also prove that the new multi-functional development of Budapest is attractive to tenants. We hope that this year further stores will follow the examples of Mlinar and Bombay Curry Bar on the Corvin Promenade during the course of the year, thus the new shopping and entertainment district can become an excellent destination for relaxation not only for those who live and work here, but for the inhabitants of the entire city. And events such as Oktoberfest, music concerts, or the birthday of Dumaszínház will invigorate the cultural life of the district this year.” – added Anita Csörgő.
“We picked the Corvin Promenade because it is the most dynamically developing district of Budapest today. We will not be opening a classic bakery like in the Petőfi Sándor Street or on Madách Square or on Astoria, but similarly to two of our stores in Zagreb, a “café-bakery”. The Corvin Promenade is already proving to be a wonderful site. “- said Zsolt Gajodi, CEO of Mlinar in Hungary.
“The Bombay Curry Bar chose Corvin Promenade for the location of its new restaurant because of its fresh, youthful feel, and its European quality of design.” – said Rajesh Bathija, the company’s owner and CEO. “We believe that the new district will be one of Budapest’s most attractive environments, and we are expecting that the people working and living in area and the shoppers and students strolling through the promenade will be happy to try some Indian flavors for lunch or dinner. We are moving to our restaurant on 23rd April under auspicious signs, and we are confident that the Bombay Curry Bar will soon open additional units. “- added Rajesh Bathija.
